I’m sat in the café at Wroclaw airport on bank holiday Friday in Poland (Independence Day) waiting for my Ryanair flight, drinking the second coffee of the morning and third croissant… the downside of travelling is too many snacks.
In a post on Linkdin this week I mentioned how wine gums are a staple of my travels and it turned into a debate about Haribo’s and Jelly Babies, each to their own!
For this blog I thought I would let the data do the talking. I’ve always made my decisions on 70% data and 30% “feel”, hugely subjective I know but the “feel” comes with experience of over 35 years in Petfood manufacture, so it must count for something!
- Number of clients = 4
- Number of active projects = 5
- Number of proposals not turning into a commission = 2
Overall a good portfolio for 2022.
- Number of days worked to start of November = 143, forecast to end of year on 158.
Overall my target is 3 days per week therefore I’ve exceeded my target by 2 days!
- Projects completed this year = 2, projects to complete in Q1,Q2 2023 = 2
- Number of flights taken = 22
- Number of countries visited = 6
- Number of projects in UK = 1
- Number of miles travelled = 37,528
I wonder what my carbon footprint is?
Number of hours spent on MS Teams calls…. A lot!
Finally, how do you measure success, I have four criteria….
Repeat commissions – I have one client who has come back to me for 3 projects, so I presume they are happy with my work!
Do I dread going to work or skip like a spring lamb to my desk… well skipping with my knees is difficult, but I really enjoy my work and know that my clients value my input.
Work life balance – this is very good, I work when I want too and when my clients need me.
Has my golf handicap improved this year. No, is it due to working too much? No. Is it due to my inability to hit a small ball with a golf club. YES!
On a personal note, I’ve also had one knee replaced and go into hospital on the 2nd December for the other one, having great clients and an understanding wife has made this possible.
From a work perspective I can see out to mid Q2 next year, after that I may have more time to improve my handicap!
But I’m always willing to talk to clients and help them solve problems. If you found this thought provoking, please get in touch.
